Y vamos de capital en capital. Creo que prácticamente todo el mundo tiene algo que decir sobre Londres. Dónde ir, dónde NO ir. Qué comer, cómo, cuándo... La capital británica tiene una amplia gama de restaurantes, bares, pubs, hoteles, posadas, hostales y albergues... Como siempre, yo intentaré daros recomendaciones de lugares donde he estado.

Empiezo por deciros que he estado en Londres 4 veces, la primera fue con 15 años mientras estaba en una pequeña ciudad llamada Hastings (¡preciosa!) aprendiendo inglés. Más tarde volví con mis padres en agosto de 2009, y las últimas dos veces fueron en 2013 (en enero, y más tarde a principios de julio).

And here we  are, going from one capital to another. I think that almost everyone has something to say about London. Where to go, where NOT to go.What to eatt, how and when... The British capital city has wide range of restaurants, pubs, hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts... As always, I'll try to give you tips from my personal experience.

Let's start saying that I've been in London 4 times, the first one was when I was 15 and I was staying in a little town called Hastings; I came back with my parents in August 2009 and the last two times were in January and July 2013.

• Dónde dormir: Cuando fui con mi familia nos hospedamos en el Cumberland Hotel, perfecta localización. Justo al comienzo de Oxford Street, puedes llegar con total tranquilidad con el metro hasta la parada de Marble Arch. Hyde Park está a menos de 5min de distancia. Modernizado hasta el punto de parecer que estás dentro de un museo, las habitaciones tienen un aire acogedor, eso sí... ¡atentos al precio!

• Where to sleep: The first time I went there with my family we stayed at The Cumberland Hotel, such a perfect location. Right at the beginning of Oxford Street, you can easily reach it by metro stopping at Marble Arch station. Hyde Park is less than 5min far. It's been redecorated and once you're in, it seems you're inside a museum! Rooms are comfy and beautiful, but watch the price!

En enero de 2013 volvimos a Londres de escapada romántica. Esta vez encontré un hotelito que se llamaba Berjaya Eden, bastante razonable de precio y no parecía ser tan anticuado como para no ir (como sabréis, los hoteles en Londres de unas 3-4 estrellas no son como los hoteles que puedes encontrar en España, por ejemplo, la mayoría son casones bastante antiguos y dejan bastante que desear). Reservamos dos dobles deluxe (atentos, porque el tipo de habitación deluxe está muy bien, también de precio, pero el diseño y el equipamiento es el adecuado). El desayuno continental estaba incluido, tranquilo, sin nada que destacar. La posición era perfecta si estás buscando alojarte en la zona de Notting Hill, (puedes llegar en metro hasta Bayswater), a penas unos 10min caminando te encontrarás en Portobello. Yo que para estoy soy un poco quejica, he de decir que el personal no fue del todo atento, sin ningún tipo de estereotipo, pero el personal de recepción creo que no debería ser descortés ante ningún cliente.

In January 2013 I went back to London with my boyfriend. This time I found a cute hotel called Berjaya Eden, quite nice price and it didn't seem so old-style to me (it's been always a hard work to find an hotel in London that was not so ugly, and not so expensive). We booked two double deluxe rooms (watch out, these deluxe rooms were beautiful and the equipment was ok, also the price, but the basic ones are totally a different story). The continental breakfast was included, quiet hotel, unremarkable. The location was perfect if you want to stay near Notthing Hill (you can reach the hotel by metro, Bayswater stop). P.S: The recepcion staff wasn't nice at all. 

Por último, y como los Rolling Stones tocaban en Hyde Park ese fin de semana, decidimos aprovechar y viajar a Londres. Esta vez reservé en Shaftesbury Hyde Park International. Una completa odisea. Nos quedamos 4 noches, y sólo con deciros que nos cambiaron de habitación 3 veces os podéis imaginar. EL primer día nos dieron una estancia diminuta, ni siquiera podíamos entrar los dos con nuestras maletas de cabina, además las vistas eran de un tubo de aire acondicionado; pedimos el cambio y nos dieron una habitación más grande donde la ducha esta rota. Aquí tardaron un poco más en venir a revisarlo, intentar arreglarlo, y aunque tuvimos que dormir ahí la primera noche, la segunda ya nos cambiaron a una habitación superior donde la alarma (creo de incendio) sonaba todas las noches a las 2 de la mañana, después de decirlo noche tras noche, os podéis imaginar la cara de pocos amigos que el personal de recepción ponía nada más vernos... Pero yo soy una de esas personas que cuando está de vacaciones, quiere estar de vacaciones, por lo que pago un hotel conforme a lo que me espero de él, y éste, sin duda, ha sido una de las grandes catástrofes de mis reservas.

As Rolling Stones were playing at Hyde Park, we decided to go back to London. The hotel we stayed in was Shaftesbury Hyde Park International. A complete odyssey. We stayed 4 night, and let's start saying we slept in 3 different rooms. As soon as we arrived they gave us a tiny room, there wasn't even space to place our cabin-sized bags; plus the views were the air conditioning- tube, we asked for another room and they quickly placed us in a bigger one, but... the shower was broken! They took a little longer to give us another room as they tried before to check if that was actually truth -and also they tried to fix it, failed!) We had to sleep there for one night and the morning after they gave us a deluxe one, bigger, better views where the alarm  (think the fire one) sounded every night at 2am. As you can guess, we told the staff,but I think they were tired of us.... I am the kind of person that when is on holidays, WANNA be on holidays, so I pay for an hotel according to what I expect for it and this one was one of my biggest fails of my bookings.

• Dónde comer/cenar:  Dejadme que os diga que a la hora de disfrutar de una comida o cena en un italiano siendo tu pareja un romano no es  tarea fácil, por eso los dos quedamos sorprendidos cuando probamos la comida de Prezzo, buena, de calidad y en un ambiente agradable, recomendado para disfrutar de pasta, pizzas y platos especiales italianos. Al lado de Harrods podrás encontrar Zia Teresa , otro restaurante de comida italiana en el que podrás disfrutar de buenos platos a un precio razonable. Una de las mejores hamburguesas que he probado en Londres fue en The Blues Kitchen, en Camden, un restaurante-pub con mucho encanto, y todo en la carta es realmente tentador. 

• Where to eat/have dinner: I should start telling you that enjoying a good Italian dinner when your partner is italian is not easy (there's always something wrong- colours, flavours, sauces, tomatoes...) That's why we both were surprised when we tasted Prezzo, such a beautiful place to have lunch/dinner, not so expensive. If you are the kind of people that love italian food there's another restaurant called Zia Teresa, right next to Harrods where you will enjoy  wonderful italian food. Let's change from pizza to hamburguers and let's talk about The Blues Kitchen ones in Camden town, I'm sure you'll have problems when choosing something from the menu, everything is so tempting! 

Desde nuestro viaje a Estados Unidos en el verano de 2011, tanto Fabio como yo hemos estado obsesionados con The Whole Foods Market, un supermercado - restaurante de comida orgánica. No hay ningún viaje en el que no busquemos antes si hay algún Market, así que cuál fue nuestra sorpresa al encontrarnos con uno de ellos en el pleno centro de Londres. La comida es buenísima, algo más cara de lo normal pero la calidad es exquisita y realmente merece la pena ir.

Since we came back from our summer in the United States back in 2011, Fabio and I were hardly obsessed with The Whole Foods Market, an organic  market-restaurant. Everytime we are travelling to a new place we seek for it, so what a fantastic surprise when we found it in London town! Food is absolutely fantastic, bit more expensive than the other markets but quality is exquisite, so worth it!

Desde mi primer viaje a Londres desarrollé un profundo cariño a la cadena Pret-à-Manger, que puedes encontrar en cualquier rincón de la capital y donde sirven zumos frescos, unos croissants maravillosos y todo tipo de bocadillos. Mi sitio favorito para desayunar, ¡esa soy yo! 

From my very first trip to London I developed a deep love for Prêt-à-manger, which can be found in every single corner around the town. You will be able to eat freat croissants, fresh juices and all kind of snacks. That's my favourite place to have breakfast in, that's me!

Pero no puedes dejar de estar en Londres sin probar la comida de otros pubs. The Monkey Puzzle estaba en frente de nuestro hotel en el barrio de Paddington, puedes encontrar un menú muy apetecible y un personal muy amable. Escápate unos minutos de Oxford Street y tómate algo en Shakespeares Head (eso sí, espero que tengas suerte encontrando un hueco libre...) y si estás cerca de Notting Hill, acércate a The Redan Pub, podrás elegir entre su amplia gama de cervezas y además seguro que hay algo en su carta que acabarás por probar.

You can not leave London without tasting its pubs' food. The Monkey Puzzle was just in front of our hotel in Paddington, they had a very appetizing menu and if you have a lovely stuff as they had everything gets better! Take a break from Oxford Street and stop by Shakespeares Head (good luck when finding a free table!) and if you're near Bayswater come to The Redan Pub, you will be able to choose from their wide range of beers and I'm also sure you will find something in their menu that you will end by eating!

Paris, France ◊ París, Francia

Hablar de París es siempre un placer. Es mi ciudad favorita en el mundo, y lo digo así, sin contemplaciones ni pensándomelo más de medio segundo, París  es mi rincón feliz. A pesar de que es una ciudad relativamente fácil a la que viajar (desde Roma o Madrid puedes encontrar vuelos baratos) sólo he ido 3 veces en mi vida, y ahora os hablaré de la última.

Fue una escapada con amigas, celebrábamos mis 23 años y los de mi amiga Ana, así que partimos desde ahí: es un viaje entre amigas estudiantes, por lo que vamos a lo económico. Salimos desde Madrid con destino al aeropuerto Paris Beauvais-Tillè, siempre volando con Ryanair, la verdad es el que precio del billete nos salió muy económico, la única desventaja (como sabréis todos los que habéis volado a este aeropuerto) es que se encuentra a las afueras de París, por lo que el trayecto es largo, por no hablar del factor "tráfico" : tardamos 2h15min en llegar hasta París ciudad.  Nos hospedamos en el hotel Baby, a pocos pasos de la parada de metro Strasbourg- Saint Denis. El hotel es un dos estrellas, estuvimos tres personas en una de las habitaciones familiares del hotel, y esto fue mi parte favorita:

Speaking about Paris is always a pleasure. It's my favourite city in the world,and, let's face it, I don't even have to think about it more than 2 seconds, Paris is my happy place. Even if it's quite easy to get there (you can easily find flights from Madrid or Rome -and cheap ones), I have been there 3 times, and today I will talk about the last one. 

It was a friend-getaway, we were celebrating my 23s and also my bestfriend Ana's, so let's start from there: it was a friends trip, so we were looking for the economic way of living. We were flying from Madrid  to Paris Beauvais-Tillè airport, always Ryanair, the truth is that the ticket was very cheap, the bad thing about it is that it may takes about 2hours from the airport to Paris, not to mention the "traffic factor", it took us about 2h15min...  We were staying at Baby Hotel  , few steps far from Strasbourg-St.Denis metro station. A 2 stars hotel in a quiet street, we were staying 3 in a family room, and that was the best part:

Estas eran las vistas, los tejados de París. Sé que algunos apreciaréis esta foto, los tejados de París siempre me han fascinado. Poco más os puedo hablar del hotel, el personal dejaba muchísimo que desear, desde un primer momento nada atentos, totalmente antipáticos y muy poco serviciales, tienen una buena relación calidad-precio y la situación la verdad es que era óptima para lo que nos podíamos permitir, pero repito, personal totalmente cero.

These were the views from our room: Paris' rooftops. I know that many of you will appreciate the picture, Paris' rooftops have always fascinated me. The truth is that there's nothing more left to say about the hotel: the staff left a really bad impression. Totally unfriendly, not caring at all about any problem; the location was pretty good and also the price but, let's face it, that's not the way an hotel staff should be.

Desayunábamos, comíamos y cenábamos fuera, los viajes entre amigas son siempre una oportunidad para descubrir hasta dónde puedas llegar. Teníamos la suerte de que una de nosotras estaba de Erasmus en otra ciudad francesa pero le habían recomendado restaurantes y cafeterías a las que ir (y por las que no pagar 6€ un café y un croissant, todo sea dicho). 

We had breakfast, had luch and dinner out, I have always said that friends getaways are a chance to know how far you can go. We were lucky because Alicia was doing an Erasmus and she knew where to go, places to visit, where to take a coffee (and not to pay 6€ for it!)

  

Así que si os apetece tomar un café, tomaros un respiro o simplemente descansar a orillas del Sena os recomiendo Bords de Seine, donde si no mal recuerdo tomé una de las mejores crêpes. 

So if you're thinking about having a coffee, or take a break or just chilling by the river Seine, I will recommend you to sit at Bords de Seine, where I had the pleasure to taste one of the best crêpes in town!

No puedes irte de París sin visitar esta magnífica librería, que aunque ahora se haya convertido más en una atracción turística que en un lugar de encuentro entre amantes de los libros, sigue siendo mágico. Shakespeare and Company.

You can't leave Paris without stopping by this wonderful bookshop, even if now it has become more a touristic spot than a place for book lovers, you can still breath the magic once inside. Shakespeare and Company.

Tengo una pasión secreta por las orquídeas, y este pequeño oasis en el centro de París fue uno de los mejores descubrimientos de mi última visita. La Maison de l'Orquidèe es sin duda un lugar al que acudir para todos aquellos que amen estas plantas, ¡y el personal era encantador!

I have a secret passion for orchids, and this little oasis in Paris was one of the best discoveries. La maison de l'orquidèe is definitely a place to go to all of you, Orchids-lovers! P.S: the staff were lovely!

Una de las cosas más maravillosas que tiene París son sus mercadillos. Los puestos que se encuentran a orillas del Sena no serán probablemente los más asequibles, pero las postales y murales que encuentras son maravillosos. 

Más sitios donde tomar un vino caliente (sí... nunca antes lo había escuchado, gracias Alicia por descubrirnos algo más de la maravillosa capital francesa.) Nosotras lo tomamos muy cerca, casi a los pies de la fantástica basílica del Sagrado Corazón, en el Irish Pub Montmartre. 

One of the most wonderful things about Paris are its markets. The ones next to river Seine will not probably be the most affordable, but their postcards, posters, and walls were little treasures.

Where to drink hot wine? (Yes... Never heard before about it, so thanks once again Alicia for this discover!) We tasted it while walking next to Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the place was called Irish Pub Montmartre, go and taste it!

Si queréis disfrutar de una maravillosa fondue, probar las mejores raclettes y disfrutar de una cena maravillosa sin tener que gastaros muchísimo, recomendadísimo el restaurante L'Etoile du Berger, en el barrio Panthèon, no olvidéis pasaros,  y para tomar un trago después de cenar siempre en la zona,os recomiendo la Pomme d'Eve, al que nosotras llegamos por casualidad y donde nos divertimos muchísimo.  

If you want to enjoy a wonderful fondue, eat a fantastique raclette and have a great dinner without spending a lot, totally recommend L'Etoile du Berger restaurant, in Panthèon district. If you want to drink something right after dinner, you will feel great at Pomme d'Eve, we  unexpectedly arrived there  and, it was fantastic! We had so much fun.

Para disfrutar de una cena entre amigos cerca del Moulin Rouge fuimos a Cafè de luna, siempre en el Boulevard de Clichy pero un poco más lejos de todo el caos turístico del Moulin. Recomendado, cenamos bien por poco!

Aprovechando que era nuestro cumpleaños, decidimos ir a Disneyland París. Para los que estéis pensando en ir os puedo dar varios consejos; si sois estudiantes universitarios esperad a comprar la entrada una vez en el parque, donde podrás disfrutar de un descuento considerable en el precio, de al menos 30 euros menos. Puedes entrar con la tarjeta universitaria española (y, obviamente, de cualquier otra universidad europea). 

For a dinner with friends next to Moulin Rouge we went to Cafè de luna, always in Clichy Boulevard but far enough from  Moulin's caos. Totally recommend it, great dinner not for a lot!

As it was our birthday, we wanted to visit Disneyland Paris. If you're thinking about getting there and you're still a college student my advice is: buy the ticket there, once in the park, you will get a considerable discount on the final price. I went there with my Spanish student card, but if you are from any other european university use it as well!

How to book a flight ◊ Cómo reservar un vuelo

Aunque para muchos de vosotros esto no sea nada nuevo, hay quien todavía no sabe muy bien cómo reservar un vuelo, dónde buscarlo, si es seguro o no... Muy bien, hablemos de ello.

En los últimos 6 años ha ido aumentando exponencialmente el número de vuelos que he cogido, casi siempre volaba por placer (escapadas, viajes con amigos o familia...) por lo que eran viajes planeados con la suficiente antelación como para ir comparando precios durante semanas, pero desde el pasado septiembre cuando me mudé a Roma las veces que he vuelto a casa se pueden contar con los dedos de una mano y entre trabajo, planes, citas y cualquier cosa que aparecía a última hora, planear la vuelta a casa se hacía cada vez más difícil así que acababa comprando los billetes de avión y desde ahí, planeaba el resto.

1. El primer paso, para mí, ha sido siempre entrar en un buscador. Soy fiel seguidora de kayak, me parece muy útil a la hora de elegir compañías, mirar horarios, comparar precios...  El último billete de avión que he comprado ha sido a través de skyscanner, ¿por qué? Simplemente antes de comprar definitivamente un billete comparo estos dos portales de búsqueda, y el que (siempre sumando todas las tasas por tarjeta de crédito etc) acaba teniendo el precio más económico, ¡es mío!

2. Una vez que ya has elegido el origen y el destino, las fechas y el número de pasajeros, aparecerá  en la pantalla absolutamente todo lo que necesitamos para nuestro viaje. Puedes seleccionar ordenar por el número de escalas, por precio de menos a más, por compañías, por duración del trayecto...

3.  Una de las cosas que más me gustan de kayak es que la predicción. En la parte izquierda aparecerá un gráfico en el que te aconsejan si esperar o comprar el billete en un período de una semana y la fiabilidad de la misma. Funciona. Doy mi palabra. No diría nada aquí sin haberlo probado antes, esa es la idea del blog, hablar de todo lo que he probado y dar mi opinión personal. Yo he esperado y he comprado el billete a un precio menor con una diferencia de 8 días, ¡es completamente fiable!

4. Justo debajo de "predicción" podéis encontrar un nuevo apartado que te permite calcular el precio final del billete incluyendo las tasas de tu tarjeta. ¿Qué quiere decir? Que, por ejemplo, los 199€ que cuesta el billete más barato para este viaje ( el primero de los que aparecen en mi captura de pantalla), aumentan hasta 221€ si le sumo las tasas de pago con una Mastercard. Además, éste dejará de ser el vuelo más económico por lo que recomiendo que hagáis uso de esta herramienta.

5. Una vez que habéis seguido todos estos pasos y habéis encontrado el mejor billete, sólo tenéis que dar a "elegir". Generalmente te envían a otra página web donde introducir tus datos personales. Es decir, tú no compras a través de kayak, ésta sólo te compara los diferentes vuelos de las distintas agencias online, por seguir con el mismo vuelo, a mí me ha enviado aquí.

Sé que uno de los principales problemas a la hora de comprar billetes online es que hay personas que no se acaban de fiar a la hora de dejar tus datos personales (y,sobre todo, los de la tarjeta de crédito) en una agencia web. Yo, como siempre, os hablo desde mi experiencia personal, he comprado a través de kayak y skyscanner en agencias como edreams, lastminute, govolo, atrapalo, expedia, airline direct. Con todas he realizado pagos seguros, he recibido la documentación a tiempo, todos los billetes y facturas, si había cambios en los horarios me avisaban a tiempo... Puedo recomendarlas con total seguridad. 

Espero que os haya servido de ayuda a todos aquellos que aún no se deciden a comprar billetes por internet, y para aquellos que sí que lo hacéis y tenéis algún consejo, nuevas agencias o portales no dudéis en escribir y opinar, ¡estaré encantada de leeros!

Although for many of you this isn't anything new there are still those who do not really know how to book a flight online, where to look, whether if it's safe or not ... Okay, so  let's just talk about it. 

In the last 6 years the number of flights I've been taken has increased, most of them were for pleasure (breaks, trips with friends or family ...) which means that those trips were planned with time enought for me to checking prices for for weeks but since last September, when I moved to Rome, the  times I've come home are a few and if you think about  work, plans, dates and anything that showed-up in the very last minute, all the "coming-back-home plan" became more and more difficult so I found myself buying the plane tickets for these days and then, I'd have make everything fit.

1. The very first step for me has always been going to a travel search engine. I am a proudly Kayak fan, I find it very useful when  choosing companies, looking schedules, compare ... I must say also that the last ticket I bought has been through skyscanner, why? Simply because   before buying a ticket for good, I always compare prices in these two websites, and the one that (always after reading and  knowing all credit card fees etc) has the lowest price, it's mine!

2. Once you've chosen the origin and destination, dates and the number of passengers, you'll see on the screen absolutely everything we need for our trip (flights, timetables, companies, stops...) You can choose to sort by the number of stops, price low to high, for companies, duration of the flight ...

One of the things I like the most about kayak is that they have the “Price trend”, On your left, a graph advices you whether to wait or buy the ticket on a one-week pheriod and its confidence and also what They advice you to do. It Works. My Word. I wouldn’t say anything here that I haven’t tried before, that’s the idea of the blog: talking about what I have seen, visit or tried and tell my personal experience.

4. Once you have followed all these steps and have found the best ticket, you just have to click "select". Most of the time they send you to another web page where you will just have to  enter your personal details. That means, you do not buy through kayak, it will only compare the different flights of different online agencies. Now, I want to keep the 290$ flight we have been keeping an eye on, so I click on "select" and that's what shows up.

The original price is not longer available, so now the SAME ticket will cost me $343,20 per person. Sometimes it does happen, and also once you're writing your credit card number you will see that there will be fees, that's exactly why you have to play with Kayak and look for more choices.

I know that one of the biggest problems when buying airplane tickets online  is that there are people who do not quite trust the fact of write down your personal details (and especially those of the credit card). When I bought  tickets via  kayak and skyscanner    sometimes they sent me to agencies such as edreams, govolo, expedia.... I didn't have a single problem with any of them, I received all the documents time, bills and tickets, if something was changed from the flight company they all warned me in time ... So once again, I do trust them.

I hope I have been helpful to those who still hesitate to buy tickets online, and for those who do it and you have any tips, new agencies, do not hesitate to write me and let me know about it, I will be happy to read you !
